Focused Knee Replacement Options
In some cases of knee pain, arthritis or injury, only parts of the knee require replacement. The knee consists of three compartments, but when only one or two require surgery, our knee replacement specialists at Medical City Hip & Knee Specialists may recommend a procedure referred to as a unicompartmental or bicompartmental knee replacement.
Benefits of Partial Knee Replacement
- more "natural" feel to the joint after surgery
- no need for total knee replacement
- faster healing times
In fact, most of our knee surgery patients report that their knee replacements feel more like natural knees. The ligaments in your knee give it strength and stability. In a typical total knee replacement procedure, some of the ligaments may be removed.
Undergoing a unicompartmental or bicompartmental knee replacement, however, often gives our patients a better chance at keeping the majority of their ligaments, including the important ACL, thereby increasing strength, stability and comfort.
